NDD was born at Xolvio, an innovative US-based software house. A happy combination of talent and core values made Xolvio the perfect environment for NDD to take shape. Xolvio’s core mission and purpose is to deliver better quality, faster. Not an easy task, and to accomplish this the team tried every agile methodology and technique under the sun. While they found many of them helpful, none quite seemed to solve the main obstacle to software excellence: scattered and incomplete requirements. Division of labor is at the core of our economy, but with that comes division of knowledge. Every team member has a fragment of truth. No method was quite able to put the fragments of truth back together. No method could thread key moments through time, taking you to their logical outcome. No method had the color to relate those moments to a system interface or actions. So the team started making sense of requirements by framing them into a sequence of moments. These moments involved interfaces, actions, and the transitions between them. Putting it all together they ended up with a complete overview that made sense through time. They finally had a clear and coherent narrative. And when they started letting the narrative drive the development, they discovered NDD.
As Xolvio applied NDD to their projects, delivery accelerated and quality increased. What took years, now took months; success stories started piling up. This did not go unnoticed or unrewarded by the market, and Xolvio grew as a result.
One of these success stories was the development of a loyalty platform for a leading gaming company. Three million users, complex logic, intricate business requirements, deep integrations with third parties. The client had an internal timeline measured in several quarters. NDD facilitated the delivery of the system within three-months. And they delivered a high-quality codebase with 90% automated test coverage. That was one happy client.
There is no doubt Xolvio benefited from community knowledge as they shaped NDD. It was now time to give back to the community by sharing their findings. It was time for NDD to let more teams own their narrative.
